Mushroom Gruyère Tartlettes

I’ve been dying to try these – there are tons of versions, but the one I like best is from Little Spice Jar. It’s so cute! These would be awesome for the upcoming holiday season – bring your own little snacks!

First up is the hardest. Carmelize onions…


Cut an onion in half, the slice into half moons and add to a NOT nonstick pan with butter. After about 5 minutes and they’re softening, add a little thyme and sugar. 


Keep stirring the onions around for about 20 minutes. 


Add a bit of water if anything starts to burn. 


Once they’ve gotten nice brown color, add a dash of balsamic vinegar. 


Ok! Put those bad boys into a bowl and then lightly sauté mushrooms. 


Unroll the puff pastry and cut one sheet into 9 squares and brush a bit of beaten egg on each. 


Add some grated gruyère into the bowl of onions and mushrooms. 


Spoon a tablespoon of the mixture to the center of each square. 


Bake for about 16 minutes at 425. Et Voila!


Ingredients (estimated):

  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 1 egg
  • 1 medium onion
  • BUTTER
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar 
  • Dash water
  • Cremini mushrooms, 8 oz. 
  • 4 oz. gruyère, grated
